Why It’s Fierce: Danger's much acclaimed consumer device, the hiptop (aka the T-Mobile Sidekick), does it all -- voice, Internet access, and cool gaming in one simple and compact handheld. The hiptop was the hottest new wireless device of 2002, winning awards and rave reviews like Industrial Designer of the Year from the Annual Wired Rave Awards (for which it beat out General Motors and Sony). Danger's content platform is also compelling, offering a mobile Web experience vastly superior to most anything else on the market, with full Web page views and surprisingly fast data speeds. It also allows for online software upgrades and multitasking. With more than $47 million in venture capital, Danger has both the financial ammo and innovative genius to succeed.

What to look for in 2003: Danger will sign deals with more carriers in the U.S., Europe, and possibly Asia, too. Rumor has it that Danger's European device will debut with a color display. We wouldn't be surprised to see Danger roll out a developer program and -- finger's crossed -- a color-screen model of the hiptop for the U.S.
