Why It's Fierce: When a name like Disney announces it has selected not one, but two products from a relatively small company to basically power most of its mobile content features for its U.S. MVNO service, the products must be pretty compelling. Disney is using mPortal's Springboard Smart Client on the handset for mobile content discovery and the Springboard Content Delivery Manager as the data platform under a managed services model. mPortal is catching on it seems with Sprint MVNOs, including Mobile ESPN. Once you get one MVNO on the Sprint network, others are sure to follow. The company's Springboard suite of products fits in well with their goal of delivering a highly personalized mobile content experience to a specific segment of users less expensively. The Springboard Content Delivery Manager, for instance, can reduce MVNO operational expenses by at least 40 percent. What's good for MVNOs is also good for content players, enterprises and mobile operators themselves. mPortal has deals with the likes of TV Guide, Xerox, Verizon Wireless and Reliance Infocomm in India.
What to look for: Look for mPortal to sign a number of deals with MVNOs worldwide.
