Samsung adds CBS to Media Hub lineup
LAS VEGAS--Samsung used the Consumer Electronics show here to announce a range of new devices and services, including a new mobile content deal with CBS and a WiFi-only version of its GalaxyTab tablet.
During a press conference overflowing with members of the media, Samsung chief strategy officer Omar Khan announced that the company inked a deal with CBS to offer "several" of the broadcaster's TV programs via its Media Hub content-distribution system. Through the agreement, Media Hub users will be able to purchase single episodes or full seasons of CBS drama and reality programs including next-day TV programming like CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, NCIS, The Good Wife and Survivor.
CBS joins MTV Networks, NBC Universal, Paramount and Warner Bros. Digital Distribution in offering content over Samsung's Media Hub.
Khan also said Samsung is working to add carrier billing functions to its Media Hub storefront. He said T-Mobile USA will offer direct billing for Media Hub digital goodies sometime this year.
In other Samsung CES news, the company unveiled a mobile printing application for Android and iOS devices, as well as a WiFi-only version of its GalaxyTab tablet.
