Verizon Wireless to offer bundled app package for smartphones

LAS VEGAS--Verizon Wireless (NYSE:VZ) will be rolling out a new bundled app package for selected smartphones that will include several of its more popular applications including the VZ Navigator, NFL Mobile, ringback tones and Verizon Video. The smartphone app package will be priced at $12.99 per month and will debut sometime in the next few weeks.

In an interview with Kristi Crum, Verizon Wireless' executive director of consumer solutions, she said that the company believes consumers want a simplified approach to apps and content. "We want consumers to find value in the network and we need services to do that," Crum said, adding that the company will likely offer more bundled packages in the future.

Crum added that consumers want apps that are secure--whether they are free or paid--and the company plans to roll out a security product in the first half of the year with a third-party vendor that will help Verizon's customers keep their devices and their content secure.
