Main Street Broadband has granted a contract to Alvarion for a rural WiMAX deployment in Florida and Georgia. Main Street Broadband has received one of the largest Rural Utilities Service (RUS) funded projects in the U.S. The RUS, a fund doled out by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, already has $1 billion in its budget for loans to rural broadband projects. Under the newly enacted stimulus bill, the RUS receives another $2.5 billion to give out as loans.
Alvarion will be deploying its 802.16e BreezeMAX base stations and customer premise equipment (CPE) in the formal RUS-funded project with Main Street Broadband. The deployment will happen in the 2.3/2.5/3.65 GHz frequency bands.
