U.S. wireless industry association CTIA announced the launch of a common short code media monitoring process to validate that promotional materials used to market short codes comply with the industry's Consumer Best Practices. Developed in conjunction with U.S. operators, the new CSC Auditing and Monitoring Initiative promises an ongoing and rigorous assessment of third-party content providers' compliance with the CBP--according to CTIA, a single set of CSC monitoring requirements translates to a more transparent and valuable compliance process across the ecosystem, from content providers to consumers.
CTIA adds that the new process will capture promotional campaign information offered in print, online, radio and television advertisements--existing CSC campaigns will be given a grace period to tweak any program that does not meet with best practices criteria, and if changes are not made by the stated deadline, the organization will prohibit offenders from renewing existing or acquiring new codes until the violations are corrected. Wireless Media Consulting will oversee the day-to-day media monitoring process.
