GetJar: 58% of users access mobile apps over once a day

ORLANDO, Fla.--Fifty-eight percent of mobile application users access their device's apps more than once a day, and almost 34 percent spend at least one hour daily on their apps, according to a new global consumer survey commissioned by cross-platform applications storefront GetJar.

Gaming apps are the most popular among respondents, with social networking solutions close behind--the cost of an app is the most decisive factor in the user's download decision, GetJar notes, adding that the volume of free applications and the ease of search topped the checklist of things consumers look for in selecting an app store. Only 25 percent of respondents said they discover the apps they're seeking via app store browsing, however--almost half instead discovered apps online, and 17 percent discovered them through word of mouth or social media.

Seventy-three percent of users told GetJar they've downloaded an app containing advertisements, and almost 60 percent said they would do so again, with close to one in four making a purchase after clicking the ad. Almost 80 percent of respondents said the quality of a brand's application makes that brand more trustworthy, and 72 percent stated they are more likely to engage with a brand with a respectable app.

Nearly 40 percent of respondents plan to switch to an Android device when they purchase their next phone, compared to 18 percent who favor switching to the iPhone. That's good news for GetJar: Last month, the firm completed a $25 million Series C financing round, stating the funding will support its efforts to aggressively target Android developers as it strives to position its storefront as a more viable option than Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) own Android Market, which has frustrated many developer partners in areas like app discovery and monetization options.
