Mobile content memory lane: Where are these top executives today (Part II)?
Welcome to the second installment of a two-part series in which FierceMobileContent looks back at some of the top movers and shakers in the mobile content industry. These are the folks that we believe helped chart the course of the mobile entertainment industry over the past decade. They spoke on panels, networked at industry conferences, talked to the press and championed the early vision for mobile entertainment--whether it was full-track music downloads, mobile TV services or mobile ad networks.
The mobile content industry has changed dramatically over the past few years, and we have seen lots of industry consolidation, company closures and corporate restructuring. Nevertheless, many of these mobile content executives have remained a part of the industry, either by trying new ventures, starting their own businesses or moving up the corporate ladder.
Of course, no list of mobile content executives would be complete without mentioning CTIA veteran Mark Desautels, who passed away in March. Desautels, the vice president of wireless Internet development at CTIA, was a powerful force in the industry. He oversaw the activities of the Wireless Internet Caucus and developed much of the educational content at the CTIA conferences.
Today, about 70 mobile content executives are honoring Desautels by participating in the Mark D Classic 2009 Golf Tournament at the Riverwalk Golf Club in San Diego. The event attracted 13 sponsor companies including CTIA, Zoove and TeleNav. Proceeds from the tournament will go to Desautels' favorite charity, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
