Openwave Mobility rolls out real-time data traffic tools

NEW ORLEANS--Openwave Mobility introduced new versions of its Price Plan Innovation and Mobile Analytics services, promising operators deeper insights into mobile data traffic across their networks.

Price Plan Innovation enables carriers to offer on-the-fly data plans and targeted promotions based on real-time user engagement. The latest version touts a new standalone operator-branded data metering app giving subscribers visibility into their data consumption when browsing online. The revamped PPI also gives operators the flexibility to introduce service-oriented pricing models alongside the conventional MB-based approach.

Openwave's updated Mobile Analytics features new visual dashboards allowing operators to analyze data consumption on a per-subscriber and per-cell site basis. The latest version extracts and processes subscriber information designed to help carriers improve customer relations management, product marketing and their partners' mobile advertising efforts. Openwave will release both Price Plan Innovation and Mobile Analytics in the third quarter of 2012.

Openwave Mobility is one of two privately held companies created after the former Openwave Systems (now Unwired Planet) sold its messaging and mediation businesses to Marlin Equity Partners last month. While Openwave Mobility was established to offer mobile video optimization and data plan management services, counterpart Openwave Messaging provides converged messaging services to the wireless, cable and wireline markets, with an emphasis on cloud and social integration capabilities.

Openwave Systems/Unwired Planet first indicated plans to sell its messaging and mediation businesses in January 2012. Unwired Planet is now focusing on a mobile communications patent portfolio comprised of approximately 200 issued U.S. and foreign patents and another 75 pending applications.
