AT&T Apps Beta program launches
AT&T announced the launch of AT&T Apps Beta, a new initiative enabling mobile developers to trial their applications with the operator's subscribers prior to retail availability. AT&T extended an open invitation to developers to submit their apps to the program here at CTIA Wireless 2009 in Las Vegas, offering them direct access to consumer feedback like user ratings, feature suggestions and bugs. Developers may also turn to AT&T Apps Beta to generate targeted user input on applications already available for download. According to the carrier, a typical trial period will last roughly four weeks, with an interactive community forum aggregating user-generated content and featuring tag clouds to spotlight the most active discussions around various applications.
According to AT&T, consumer feedback yielded by the AT&T Apps Beta program will help improve its applications portfolio and inform future go-to-market activities for applications; the carrier notes apps that fare particularly well in consumer trials may be made available to all AT&T customers via the AT&T MEdia Mall content and multimedia storefront, and may also receive additional promotional support or featured placement in customer-facing channels. AT&T subscribers with compatible handsets can now download applications for trial at no cost, although an unlimited data plan is a prerequisite for participation.
