TeleNav introduces location service APIs

Location-based services provider TeleNav debuted TeleNav Connect and TeleNav Share, a pair of APIs enabling developers to connect their mobile and web applications to the firm's turn-by-turn navigation and location sharing solutions. Promising cross-platform, multi-carrier and device-wide support, TeleNav also will launch a new developer portal offering comprehensive documentation, informational guides, forum discussions and related resources that articulate the benefits of the company's APIs.

The new TeleNav Connect app-to-app API touts a seamless process for launching location-based services from within an application, supplying information to guide users to specific locations--for example, a restaurant information and review service could include a "Drive To" button with each listing, supplying voice-guided, turn-by-turn directions to TeleNav subscribers. TeleNav Connect also enables developers to launch maps, driving directions, real-time traffic and drive-time local search results from within their software. In addition, the new TeleNav Share API offers users tools to more efficiently send an address from a website or a mobile application directly to their handset--a "Send to Phone" option allows consumers to input their mobile number to receive address information via text message and share it with friends. TeleNav subscribers also will see the address in their "Favorites" menu when they launch the app.

TeleNav serves more than 17 million subscribers across all major mobile operating systems and hundreds of devices supported by operator partners AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and U.S. Cellular--a limited number of supported devices are also available via Verizon Wireless.
