This is a bold step forward for Nokia and will help keep its legion of loyal followers from defecting to the competition. Operators will hate it of course as they believe that they understand the consumer better than Nokia and that their more limited services are better. However the fact is that Nokia is probably one of the world's most successful consumer brands which has been built on understanding the consumer. Operators hate it but people buy Nokia phones not Vodafone, Orange, et al. I think that Nokia are as well placed to make this work as Apple but they do need to keep being bold - something that has been difficult for the Finnish company to do in the past.
