Big four UK operators share government contracts

The UK Government has divided a significant percentage of a £170 million contract for public sector mobile voice and data services amongst the country's four largest mobile operators. O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone are all represented in the new Mobile Solutions (II) framework contract; only 3UK is absent.

The tender process was divided into three lots. BT, O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone won supply contracts in the lot ‘mobile voice and data', for straightforward mobile subscriptions in the public sector. 2ergo, HTK, Orange, PageOne Communications and Vodafone won the lot ‘wide-area paging and messaging', designed primarily for public sector workers in environments where the use of messaging devices capable of transmission is restricted. AMT-SYBEX, BT, Detica, Orange and Vodafone won supply contracts for ‘bespoke mobile solutions', the tender to provide field workers with mobile solutions tailored to their specific needs. All contracts became active on January 1 2009.
