Deutsche Telekom sees connected car driving M2M market in 2013

Jürgen Hase, vice president of the M2M competence centre at Deutsche Telekom (DT) and chairman of the M2M Alliance, believes that M2M will grow strongly in 2013 within established industry sectors. Of particular note, Hase claims that the automotive industry will be the key driver behind M2M adoption in Europe, with the European Union's eCall initiative acting as the catalyst. By 2015, all newly registered vehicles must be equipped with an eCall emergency call system, leading to auto manufacturers pushing to integrate embedded SIMs to comply with this regulation. Telematics and connected entertainment services will also boost M2M growth, which will be subject to mass-production. Article
