Tools

WorldMax has launched Europe's first mobile WiMAX network covering the centre of Amsterdam, Holland. The network, which is being run by Alcatel-Lucent and which is part-financed by Intel, operates in the 3.5GHz frequency band utilising 80MHz of spectrum. Coverage is currently limited to within the Amsterdam ring road but WorldMax is promising to deploy a 3,000 base station strong national network in the future. WorldMax is marketing the service under the brand name Aerea and is claiming download speeds of up to 1Mbit/s and uplink speeds of up to 128kbit/s.
