Femtocell developer considers offering gateway device

Having just raised another US$28 million of finance, the femtocell developer RadioFrame Networks is thinking about offering its own gateway product to mobile operators. This move by the company, which has now raised US$100 million since 2001, could potentially upset the reseller relationship it has today with Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN).

While RadioFrame's CEO, Jeff Brown, claims the relationship with NSN is good and one he wants to maintain, he has not ruled out the development of a gateway product that would offer an end-to-end solution which would be offered directly to mobile operators. "We may bring out such a device, and we've worked on pieces of that," he said.  "However, we don't have a plan to productize that in the future. We're familiar with the realities of the world, which is probably why we haven't productized our own gateway."

Existing shareholders of RadioFrame include O2 and Sprint Nextel, among others.
