Report: Femtocells gaining traction, but slowly

Having had high hopes of seeing volume shipments of femtocells starting last year, a new study from Infonetics Research states that the number of units shipped doubled between the fourth quarter of 2009 and the fourth quarter of 2010. However, while revenues from 2G and 3G femtocells grew over 120 per cent and the number of units sold expanded by 200 per cent in 2010 over 2009, the actual quantities remained small. Regarding vendors, Infonetics puts Samsung as leading the femtocell market in terms of revenues in the fourth quarter of 2010, followed closely by Alcatel-Lucent and NEC. Release
