Study: Adoption of small cells and public space femtocells gathers pace

Market research into the state of the small cell and public space femtocell sector has revealed that a growing number of mobile operators plan to deploy the technology, according to a new study from Infonetics Research. The study said that femtocells have clearly moved beyond their original residential target market, moving into public space coverage, and becoming a full member of the "small cells" sector. According to Infonetics, over 80 per cent of operators interviewed have already deployed small cells (predominantly microcells and picocells), and the remainder will deploy them by the end of 2012.
