Vip Operator confirms Macedonia 4G license

Telekom Austria’s Macedonian subsidiary, Vip Operator, was one of three carriers to win LTE spectrum in an auction completed last week.

The carrier is paying €10.3 million for a 20 year license covering frequencies in the 800-MHz and 1800-MHz bands and plans to use the 4G network to meet growing demand for multimedia services. T-Mobile and One are reported to be the only other bidders, but have yet to confirm their license wins.

Telekom Austria claims to have the largest LTE network in its domestic market, and is also moving towards a launch in Croatia, after its Vipnet unit acquired 800-MHz spectrum for around €20 million.
