Position Description

The NextWave family of WiMAX digital baseband ASICs is the core of our WiMAX system architecture. NextWave ASICs are designed to accommodate a wide range of device types including mobile handsets, PDAs, mobile PC cards, USB devices, and CPE modems. We are also developing a family of customer-friendly device reference designs, including those for handsets and media players. These reference designs will take full advantage of the innovations built into our WiMAX ASIC products.

The Interoperability Test Engineer will play an important role in the NextWave Semiconductor organization, and responsibilities will include:

· Conduct Mobile WiMAX Interoperability Testing (IOT) with NextWave mobile stations and third party infrastructure at PlugFests and in IOT labs. Requires up to 40% travel.

· IOT Test Planning, lab bench setup, test execution, analysis and debugging during interoperability testing of NextWave WiMAX mobile subscriber stations.

· Document IOT test reports and problem reports for issues identified during testing.

· Provide recommendations for improvements and resolution of ambiguous areas of IEEE 802.16 to standards engineering department.

· Debug and support customers field testing activities.

· Work in a cross-functional team environment with significant interaction with other test engineers, software developers, ASIC designers, hardware engineers, and systems engineers.

· Work closely with the systems, marketing, and sales departments to provide the best solutions to meet customer needs, and with the development teams to determine requirements, develop a testing environment, and drive lab and field integration.


Skills and Experience required for this position:

· BS (Computer Eng., E.E., or CompSci) plus 6 years of experience with System Integration and Test of wireless communication devices or MSEE with academic study in the area of communication theory or digital signal processing required and 4 years of experience.

· Extensive knowledge of at least one wireless datacom/telecom protocol (MAC/PHY) required such as WiMAX, WiFi, Bluetooth, CDMA, GSM, etc.

· Lab experience with test equipment and software including protocol analyzers, Ethereal, communications test boxes, VSA, etc.

· Experience with developing software in C/C++, Perl/Python/TCL, or Java languages.

· Experience with Linux OS is desirable.
