Position Description

Reporting to: Head of Infrastructure
Location: Home Counties, Bucks
Purpose of Job:
A senior IT resource with particular responsibility for managing the database servers and data-centre systems. Provide second and third line support, design and configuration of networking, operating systems, hardware and monitoring.
Principal Accountabilities (responsibilities and duties):
• SQL Server Database administration and planning, supporting developers.
• Windows and Linux server administration
• Configuring and managing firewalls and networking servers
• Day to day technical hardware and OS management of the production and corporate Windows and Linux servers
• Identify and document processes and improvements to increase service quality to ITIL standards
• Configuration and management of Windows servers (AD, Exchange and SharePoint)
• Management and configuration of SNMP monitoring system
• Provide 2nd & 3rd line support to frontline Operations staff
• Configuration and support of switches routers an firewalls
• Working directly with the infrastructure team to improve and refine stability and security of the platform

• Able to support a number of databases and physical database servers
• Able to provide reliable and robust back up strategies and DR plans

• Able to effectively participate as part of a highly skilled Infrastructure and DBA team to produce highest standard of work
Decision Making Authority:
• Day to day diagnosis and resolution of first line technical issues
• Escalation to 2nd line within agreed SLAs and timeframes
• Communication to customers on Operational Status and tickets
Experience, Qualifications and Technical Knowledge:
• MCDBA or MCSE (strongly desired)
• Knowledge of SQL, as an administrator
• Knowledge and experience of working with network configurations (Cisco, Foundry (highly desirable)
• Experience with mission critical production and corporate systems (highly desirable), preferably multi-site environment
• Broad knowledge of operating system builds – Windows & Linux
• Experience of working to ITIL standards
• Knowledge of EMC SAN highly desirable
