Position Description
The position serves as a Senior Wireless Engineer who is responsible for planning, designing, and implementing wireless network solutions for the company. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of wireless data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions for the wireless network. Exhibits wireless radio, WiFi, and WiMax functional expertise, works on complex problems requiring a high level of ingenuity and creativity gained through years of practical experience. Frequently contributes to the development of new principles, theories, guidelines, and methods. Often self initiated, work is usually performed independently with minimal direction from manager. Provide technical leadership and training to less experienced professional staff, as either a generalist or specialist within area of expertise. Specific duties/responsibilities/functions * Direct the evaluation of wireless technologies and equipment for deployment in Citizens network. * Provide information and research regarding new wireless technologies for strategic planning; new business opportunities, and budget development. * Coordinate with Sales and Marketing to support wireless product development and deployments. * Manage equipment vendors that Citizen utilizes to provide new technologies. Job qualifications to perform the full job at an acceptable level. * Minimum six years experience in wireless technologies. * Experience in investigating and deploying new wireless technologies. The candidate must possess outstanding interpersonal skills, presentation skills, and writing skills. Strong working knowledge of network management tools and operating systems required. Preferred experience: * Experience setting up local exchange operations including network design and service order processing. * An understanding of IP telecommunications and data packet protocols. * Experience with regulatory and legal issues associated with governmental regulation of telecommunications services. * Experience supporting a Marketing/Sales driven organization. * Strong focus on continuous quality improvement and decision making ability. * Maximize employee productivity, morale, and retention through empowerment techniques and team building. * Demonstrated understanding of the role and impact of cross-functional departments and their relative impact on company initiatives. * Proven ability to solve problems creatively and with a “can do” attitude. * Develop an achievable set of network performance objectives for the organization and then measure performance to those metrics. * Provide periodic assessment of key operational issues and potential problems to upper management. Specialized Knowledge: * Must have knowledge of wireless telecommunication. Additionally, knowledge in the following disciplines helpful: VoIP, circuit switch, cross connect, fiber, copper, SONET, and packet technologies. Knowledge/education/certification/license requirements: * Bachelor of in Engineering required and a Master”s degree preferred. New wireless technologies, telephone, VoIP, Internet, data, and transport. Working knowledge of computer word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software; network planning procedures; deployment and functions of electronic equipment; contract administration, capital and operating budget planning and preparation. * Physical Requirements Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills required. * Frequent travel may be required. Must be available for network emergencies 7×24. Some evening and/or weekend work as necessary based upon workload.
