Position Description
Hypres Inc. is a world leader in superconducting electronics. Recently we have developed technology to perform critical digital signal processing at speeds up to 40 GHz. We are aggressively commercializing this unique technology and are seeking a world-class communications engineer to help design systems to fully exploit this disruptive technology. Our first project is a multi-channel WiMAX basestation with all digital signal processing up to the final power amplifier.
The ideal candidate will have strong skills in communication theory and digital signal processing with application in multi-carrier communication schemes such as OFDM. They should be able to creatively partition system specifications into module specifications where the module capabilities may be dramatically different from conventional technology. The candidate should have the experience to identify high risk areas of a system design. In depth knowledge of one or more communication standards such as 802.16e is a strong plus. A Ph. D. in Electrical Engineering or a related field is preferred; however, candidates with MS degrees coupled with significant industry experience will be considered. This person must be a team player with the passion to work in an entrepreneurial environment.
Consequently … HYPRES, the leader in cryogenic technology for digital RF applications is looking for a Chief Base Station Architect to lead the R&D efforts to define a commercial digital transceiver for commercial broadband applications (WiMAX and RAN LTE). Responsibilities include defining the product architecture, product specifications and leading an R&D team focused on the execution of the R&D plan. A successful candidate will have hands on experience in the design of RF for base station applications with a proven track record of shipping commercial products. The Chief Base Station Architect will serve a key role on the company’s management team and will be required to support the Sales and Marketing efforts in the Commercial Wireless Division. Excellent written and presentation skills are required.
Critical Skill (Candidates must meet these thresholds):
1. 10 years experience in design of wireless communications products. Including design of RF receiver and transmitter circuits.
2. 5 years experience in systems engineering aspects of base station design and test. Including specification for major subsystems (e.g., baseband, RF). Oversight of design, integration and test for base station subsystems.
3. Knowledge in interface and performance specification for base stations as defined by the WiMAX Forum, OBSAI and 3GPP.
4. Experience in the design of OFDM RF transceivers.
Essential Skills:
1. System Engineering: must have experience defining the product requirements for RF subsystems as part of a product shipped into a commercial base station.
2. Management: must have at least 2 years of experience managing R&D teams of 10 or more employees focused on producing RF systems for base stations.
3. Technical: Able to contribute in refining the design of a commercial transceiver product focused on mobile broadband. Capable of producing clear engineering results for customer presentation.
