Sales Engineering Manager, Eastern Region
Description
Our client, a telecom service provider, is looking for a Eastern Region Sales Engineering Manager to lead the wireless data/wireless messaging, pre-sales team. Qualified candidates will possess multiple years of experience in the telecommunications industry in a sales-oriented, technical management role, with an emphasis on mobile and/or wireless products and services. This position requires excellent interpersonal skills to effectively work in a team environment and explain complex system solutions to enterprise customers. The successful candidate will support the sales professionals by providing customer needs analysis, engineering and design of technical solutions, pricing and proposal assistance, technical presentations, technical consultation to internal and external customers, and to assist as the technical closer on sales opportunities. The candidate must also be comfortable in a dynamic atmosphere with rapidly expanding customer base and changing demands.
The Sales Engineering Manager will be responsible for actively driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process, working in conjunction with the extended sales team as the key technical adviser and product advocate. The Sales Engineering Manager must be able to articulate technology and product positioning to both business and technical users, and must be able to identify all technical issues to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the sales process.
The Sales Engineering Manager must be able to establish and maintain strong relationships throughout the sales cycle. In addition, the Sales Engineering Manager will work closely with partner technical teams as required to ensure that there is a transfer of technical knowledge to those teams.
Responsibilities
• Direct all aspects of the sales engineering organization that may include either pre-sales technical support (sales presentations, product demonstrations, and trial support) and/or post-sales customer support
• Implement activities (e.g. public presentations, interviews or speeches) to promote and sustain technical leadership
• Provide guidance to subordinates to achieve goals in accordance with establishes policies and processes
• Support sales teams to drive the sales of wireless data/wireless messaging products and services and develop relationships with customers from a technical perspective
• Work closely with account managers throughout all stages of the sales cycle
• Analyze needs of the Sales team and create supporting documentation or tools to better equip the team in the sales process
• Help to qualify opportunities from a technical perspective
• Perform needs analysis for qualified sales opportunities. Create technical requirements documentation for the implementation and integration of products into customer environments.
• Develop technical sections of proposals and answers to RFI/RFPs
• Interface closely with Product Management and Engineering within the company and provide feedback on competitive trends, market shifts, and customer needs to ensure that products and services match the changing market.
• Manage “Proof of Concept”, “Pilots” and “Evaluation” activities that involve the installation, customization and testing of products
• Drive product and feature beta testing process at customer sites
Requirements:
• B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or a related field is strongly preferred
• Applicable industry certifications (MCSE, CLP, MCNE, etc.)
• Ten (10) plus years of technical and management experience
• Proven track record in both management and leadership of pre-sales technical teams
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Highly motivated, self-starter able to work on own initiative with minimal supervision
• Thorough knowledge of wireless data and wireless messaging products wireless platforms, wireless technology, messaging systems, and competing technologies and services
• Experience in planning for and deploying products in production carrier networks. Demonstrable success in large-scale service provider projects.
• Excellent organizational, customer service, and communication skills
• Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to eliminate sales obstacles through creative and adaptive approaches
• 5 plus years experience architecting, deploying and managing a large deployment of any of the following E-mail platforms: Exchange, Domino, and GroupWise
• Solid understanding of Enterprise Application, Web Application, Service Oriented, and Client-Server Architectures as well as knowledge of ERP/SFA/CRM/FSA competitive landscape
• 7 plus years experience as a technology consultant
• Technical aptitude and business acumen with a consultative approach to find creative solutions to real customer problems
• Exceptional presentation skills and the ability to handle large audiences are a must
• Technical knowledge on firewalls, proxies, software distribution, asset management, network infrastructures, and systems monitoring
• Web or Client/Server application development experience
• Excellent interpersonal skills. Must possess strong presentation skills and be able to communicate professionally in response to voice mails, emails, RFI/RFPs and when submitting reports
• Effective written communication skills
• Travel: 50%
