Position Description
REPORT: Director of Mobile System Engineering
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Conducts extensive lab evaluations and integration testing of network elements and document results.
-Formulates integrated voice, data, and/or video network architectures based upon demand, capacity, emerging network services, trends, and technologies
-Plans future network enhancements and directions for access, metro, and national networks.
-Provides detailed engineering support and consultation to field systems, design engineers, and implementation teams.
-Serves as primary subject matter expert in the area of engineering specialty
-Conduct engineering economic, alternative, and feasibility evaluations
-Develops network element technical specifications.
1.Responsible for mobile system engineering SME support to Strategy and Product Development teams focused on mobile and converged wireless wireline service initiatives for Cox business customers (SMB and enterprise). Provides technical leadership and or support to cross-functional engineering teams during all phases of the product development life cycle including ideation, business development, development/procurement, technology trials, and FOA deployments.
2.When serving as technical team lead on the product team, coordinates engineering activities as needed across the entire Cox technology community including network and device engineering, and IT. Ultimately responsible for developing the high level architecture and detailed end-to-end technology plan addressing all aspects of the solutions necessary for deployment of new Cox mobile services.
3.Define use cases, functional and technical requirements, and test plans for mobile data/voice products and services starting from high level marketing definitions and business requirements.
4.Work with technology vendors on service and product roadmaps and technology development activities to meet specific Cox requirements for new mobile features and functionalities and enable integration with existing network infrastructure.
5.Coordinate with product team and other internal/external technology communities, as required, to ensure mobile services meet performance, availability, and cost objectives.
6.Collaborate with peers in partner MSOs, Equipment Suppliers, Consulting Firms, and other wireless system operators as needed.
7.Solicit and evaluate technical contributions and proposals from vendor companies as necessary to meet Cox¿s future technical requirements.
8.Typical travel will be 25%.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Typical Training / Experience – BS/BA in or Engineering or Computer Science or related discipline and generally 5-8 years of experience in related field OR MS/MA and generally 3-5 years of experience in related field. Certification required in some areas
2.Experience in wireless product development that includes voice/data applications based on postpaid and pre-paid billing. Must have worked for wireless carrier or vendor in product development engineering role.
3.Detailed knowledge of development life cycle management in telecom environment.
4.Knowledge of Mobile Internet standards including OMA, IETF & 3GPP2.
5.Must have broad based wireless IN, packet data, handset client, and OTA technology knowledge.
6.Good understanding of mobile data client server architecture, supplementary services, SMS, MMS, and WAP
7.Experience with TDM and IP based fixed network technology that includes design, implementation, and operations of soft switching, TCP/IP, VoIP, BGP, Mobile IP, SIP, Sigtran, MAP, SS7, SMPP, SMTP, IMAP, and IMS in the mobile network environment.
8.Working knowledge of mobile broadband wireless technologies including CDMA/EV-DO, UMTS/HSPA, OFDM, LTE, 802.11x, and 802.16e
9.Two plus years experience in software development environment.
10.Knowledge of software system architecture of code on mobile electronics devices and real time network elements.
11.Experience planning and resource management of technology projects.
12.Ability to cope in a dynamic start-up environment that requires interrupt-driven multi-tasking in response to constantly shifting priorities.
13.Ability to work with minimum supervision, learn quickly on the job in a fast paced environment, and proactively contribute as an experienced subject matter expert.
14.Demonstrated ability to combine engineering/technical expertise with business and financial acumen to achieve corporate goals.
15.Demonstrated ability to flourish in a highly collaborative team environment where personal influence and credibility supersedes formal title based authority, and skill in solving complex problem.
