Senior technical lead
Location: San Francisco, CA
Salary: $100,000 – $120,000

Our client is the world leader in consumer music recognition services, is looking for a bright, enthusiastic Senior technical lead to join their new US team.

This role would be suitable for somebody with strong technical background in one of their core technology areas with 1-3 years of technical project management experience, or exceptionally, for a person with both a strong background, and a genuine desire to move into project management.

Please note that to apply for this role, your CV must clearly demonstrate significant hands on experience with specification, design, development, and testing within at least one of our client’s core technology areas. The core technology areas are: mobile applications, J2EE systems & web services. You must also be a self-starter and be very comfortable working in a small team that is likely to evolve and change quickly as the business grows.

Role

This role will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer and will involve working with an excellent commercial and technical teams, who are primarily based in the United Kingdom and include working closely with major handset manufacturers and mobile carriers. The successful candidate will quickly fit in to their highly productive yet easy-going team, and will be credible in front of both technical staff, and customers.

The Senior Technical Lead will:

- Build, customise, port and troubleshoot mobile applications
- Manage a small team of QA Engineers
- Work closely with the core engineering team based in London, UK
- Work with network carriers and handset manufacturers to ensure requirements and delivery commitments are met
- Work with the internal team, customers, and external providers to formulate and agree detailed project plans.
- Work with the marketing and commercial teams to understand business requirements.
- Effectively manage application development and porting and all related deliverables to agreed scope, time and cost.
- Produce clear well-documented functional and technical specifications.
- Produce regular reports for external customers and for internal communications.

Skills & Experience

Essential skills:
- Technical design leadership experience
- Design and development in Java (J2ME preferably)
- Client-server application design and development.
- Experience of the full software development lifecycle.
- Experience in code versioning
- Excellent in verbal and written communication skills in English
- Proactive, self motivated professional who takes pride in his/her work.
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or similar or demonstrated professional experience

Other skills of interest:
- An interest in the Music Industry.
- Knowledge/Experience of Spring MVC, JSP, Tomcat (or another servlet engine), Web Services
- Knowledge/Experience of JBOSS and J2EE application servers.
- Knowledge and experience in C++
- Experience in OO design and data modelling skills.
- Familiar with the CVS version control system.
- Confident deploying and running systems on both Windows & Linux.

Required Experience:
- At least 3 years developing consumer-facing java applications.
- At least 3 years working on client-server applications
- At least 1 year experience working with customers/clients.
