Position Description

Develops machining sequence, programs and tooling applications for prototype parts. May work with and advise Engineering on new product designs and modification of existing products to reduce setup time and increase manufacturing efficiency.

Summary:
Fabricates prototype parts: programs and runs numerous complex setups and operates NC, CNC, automatic and hand machining equipment. Performs a wide variety of close tolerance machining operations such as milling, turning, boring, drilling, facing and tapping. Responsible for adjusting machine tools and equipment, and for periodic inspection of completed parts while maintaining product quality and timely and efficient production.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develops, loads and maintain NC/CNC programs. Makes appropriate adjustments necessary to the machine, tooling and/or program to produce acceptable parts. Schedules the manufacturing of prototype and production orders, keeping response time for prototypes as short as possible and determining which production orders will fit the schedule.
- Maintains appropriate communication with Production Control to ensure current production schedule is executed. Audits own performance, inspecting completed parts, as needed, to verify and maintain product quality using tools such as protractors, venires, micrometers, and custom gauges. Clean and deburr machined parts as required.
- Plans sequences of operations, order materials from stores and maintain a flow of completed orders in accordance with production schedules. Keeps current with changes in the Manufacturing field regarding processes, set ups, designs and equipment and serves as a resource for the purchase and set up of new equipment.
- Assists and trains other Machinists as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Requires a High School diploma or equivalent.
- Two or more years of vocational/specialized training.
- Four to six years of work experience in a machine shop environment which utilizes a wide variety of CNC, NC, automatic and manually controlled machining equipment.
- Requires a thorough knowledge of machine shop practices and procedures.
- Must have ability to read and interpret average to complex assembly and machine drawings and to make average to complicated arithmetic and trigonometric calculations.
- Requires a working knowledge of NC/CNC programming.
