Manager 3, Innovation Process

This position is in T-mobile’s advanced product and service design group which we call The Creation Center. The Creation Center uses a human-centered innovation process to discover new or untapped needs of customers and solve them with new products and services from T-mobile USA. We function as a consultancy within T-mobile working on a wide variety of problems for a wide variety of groups within the company from Product Development and Retail to Human Resources. Some of the cornerstone’s of the Creation Center’s work are 1) a highly collaborative, project-based approach where individuals from diverse backgrounds work together to discover opportunities and find solutions; 2) a belief in empathic research methods and 3) rapid prototyping (we get our hands dirty – sometimes literally.
We are looking for a leader to help us continue to deepen our design and innovation skills through project work, teaching and training
Primary Responsibilities
· Manage team of Process Producers (Project Leaders) and Experience Specialist (Project Coordinators)
· Recognize skill gaps across the Creation Center team and deisgn roles, training on projects to fill them
· Coach all Creation Center projects with an eye for keeping them on a productive path, suggesting new methods and activities to deepen their learnings and their concepts
· Design and deliver ongoing design and innovation curriculum for the Creation Center team
· Oversee the delivery of our company-wide training module that introduces all T-mobile leadership to the process and methods of innovation.
· Connect with other organizations with a similar in-house approach to innovation in an effort to share and compare best practices.
· Regularly meet as part of Creation Center leadership to set strategy for new project, hiring etc.
Functional/Technical Skills
· A background in innovation consulting either for an external consultancy or from within a large organization
· A record of using an innovation approach to invent and implement new ideas
· A record of working successfully in and leading highly collaborative teams.
· An understanding and working knowledge of “design research” or “empathic research” and proven experience in turning that research into actionable opportunities for a client or employer
Management Responsibilities
· Regularly directs the work of full-time employees or FTE equivalents
· Interview, select and train employees
· Conduct performance reviews
· Accountable for the work of a recognized organizational unit
· Determine and secure resources and materials needed to perform the work of the unit
Education and Experience
· BA or BS required, MA or MS preferred
· Minimum 5+ years experience in innovation consulting, including management experience
· Minimum 10 years work experience
