The Compliance Engineer V applies a wide range of specialized Engineering skills to obtain, maintain and document regulatory/agency approvals and compliance certifications for Zebra printer products. This individual serves as a resource to the Engineering staff during product development and provides technical direction with respect to EMC, EMI, Safety and Environmental design issues. Provides assessments and clarification of codes and standards to project teams. Serves as a technical resource to Sr. Management for guaranteeing the availability and continuance for sale of Zebra products globally.

Responsibilities:
Responsible for all aspects of Zebra’s RF/EMI/EMC compliance process for the purposes of maintaining agency approvals, compliance to international codes & standards, emerging standards and worldwide certification of Zebra printer products.

1. Responsible for the administration and negotiation of consulting services with 3rd party compliance test labs/suppliers while minimizing the cost, risk and exposure to the Corporation.
2. Responsible for assessing the application of codes & standards to new product developments and 3rd party designs in order to obtain and maintain the agency certifications specified by Zebra design requirements.
3. Remains current and knowledgeable of all domestic/international agencies and compliance standards applicable to Zebra products.
4. Prepares plans and procedures to support the design verification/validation testing performed by project teams. Provides hands-on support for testing when required to maintain project schedules. Keeps management informed of problems and progress through regular status reports.
5. Capable of performing and training internal resources in a variety of European Normal or IEC international compliance tests such as electrostatic discharge, electrical fast transients, surge immunity, conducted RF immunity, voltage dips/interrupts and harmonic current emissions.
6. Performs, monitors, analyzes and publishes the results of product compliance tests. Evaluates test results and makes design change recommendations.
7. Develops, implements and maintains an appropriate level of operating procedures, policies and standards necessary to support the standardization of regulatory compliance among Zebras centers of excellence.
8. Represents Zebra Technologies to compliance bodies, customers, service providers, at meetings, consortiums and seminars. May serve on new product development teams or on committees representing a Compliance Engineering or technical specialty.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- BSEE or equivalent with 8 or more years of professional experience
- Five or more years demonstrated experience obtaining FCC/IC certifications of radio devices, particularly ISM devices.
- Five or more years demonstrated experience obtaining worldwide radio certification\type approvals in the EU, Asia, & Latin America regions.
- Five or more years demonstrated experience designing EMC/EMI compliant products or testing for compliance and for maintaining product safety.
- Five or more years demonstrated experience and expertise in achieving worldwide regulatory requirements relating to light industrial products (UL, CSA, European low voltage and EMC directives, FCC, NOM etc.)
- Familiarity with:
o The China commission for Conformity Certification of Electrical Equipment
o And the CB Scheme established by the International Electrotechnical Committee for Conformity Testing to Standards for Electrical Equipment (IECEE).
- Experienced developing and executing test plans using third party laboratories and in-house facilities.
- Knowledge of effective printed circuit board layout practices, design for EMC and component specification.
- Experienced using software analytical tools to recommend EMC/EMI design alternatives for improving circuitry, PCB layouts or product shielding.
- Excellent analytical/interpersonal skills including communication, collaboration, negotiation and team building.
- Must have a proven track record of proactively maintaining strategic focus, developing requirements, maintaining program momentum and achieving scheduled project commitments.
- Must be flexible, self-motivated and self directed.
- Must be willing to travel 25% of the time.
- Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and conventional fabrication techniques used throughout the electronics industry such as multi-layer circuit boards, injection molding and sheet metal stamping.
