Job Title: Manager of Environmental Compliance

Job Summary:
Develop and implement EH&S compliance, improvement programs and systems for the division. Participate in division’s planning activities and provide recommendations on environmental and safety issues. Act as liaison between the division and Corporate EH&S Department. Complete regulatory compliance reporting and reporting tasks. Provide workforce training related to general industrial safety practices and safety/environmental compliance issues.

Responsibilities:
Provides leadership and direction in the implementation of applicable controls and Corporate EH&S goals, policies and directives. Manages compliance efforts; presents EH&S program and performance data to upper management. Manages the relationship with and works with outside auditors where necessary to evaluate the EH&S performance. Conducts site EH&S audits to evaluate safety and environmental program effectiveness and compliance. Works with operations management to develop and implement action plans to improve EH&S performance. Tracks and measures corrective action and improvement plans. Designs, develops, organizes and delivers training.
- Develops and maintains a competent and motivated team of EH&S support personnel to support the facility level. Identifies development opportunities for the team members.
- Gathers and analyzes data at the facility on EH&S metrics to assist in assessing trends, issues and areas for improvement and prepares regulatory required reports. Maintains current knowledge of EH&S industry best practices and technological developments and equipment to remain up-to-date on related system devices and techniques designed to eliminate or minimize associated risks.
- Manages ongoing relationships with governmental agencies, industry and trade groups to better understand current and predict future permitting, legislative, and technology issues that affect facility operations. Understands all relevant legislation, including OSHA, NFPA, and communicate impact to site and corporate mgmt.
- Partners with operations and legal staff to plan, analyze and assess environmental permitting and compliance issues for purposes of developing ongoing and future environmental strategies. Assists operations staff in the assessment and development of environmental-related capital projects and the environmental impact of other managed projects at the facility.
- Responsible for assuring plant compliance with federal, state and municipal regulations, including EPA, and obtains necessary permits for toxic and hazardous waste clean-up / management, soil remediation, air, waste water, and storm water discharge.
- Oversees the management of work-related injuries at the facility and the application of cost containment measures where appropriate. Evaluates and analyzes injuries and related trends for the facility, and works directly with operations management to establish root causes and implements associated preventative measures. Oversees subcontractor adherence to facility safety and health specifications.

Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university in Environmental Sciences, Industrial Technology, or related Engineering program, plus 3 – 5 years or related experience.
- Experience developing and implementing safety and environmental programs and systems.
- Previous experience with ISO 9000 or ISO 14001 preferred.
- Experience performing regulatory compliance reporting.
- Working knowledge of EPA, RCRA and SARA regulations, permitting, and reporting.
- Ability to prioritize and work with multiple concurrent short-term projects with minimal supervision.
- Previous project management experience preferred.
- Organized, detailed, and team-oriented.
- Strong academic performance. Exceptional interpersonal skills and proven track record of teamwork, adaptability, innovation, initiative and integrity.
