Position Description

The Network Engineer/Planner role is to provide a single point of contact for
resolving technical problems within an enterprise network environment, while
assuring the highest level of customer support and adhering to the service
delivery requirements as mandated by IT SLAs. The responsibilities include
the following:
• Providing design, technical and consulting services to ensure the
implementation of reliable and effective network and security products and
services that cover multiple locations and time zones worldwide.
• Designs and implements local and wide area network solutions, including
security, capacity planning, backup and recovery, implementation procedures,
technical review and standards and disaster planning.
• Design, architect, optimize and implement secure solutions for corporate
network customers, vendors, development labs, DMZ, VPN, VoIP and 3rd
parties;
• Prepares and maintains documentation and Visio diagrams of network
configurations and cabling layouts.
• Configure, install, support, and troubleshoot Cisco edge switches,
Checkpoint and PIX firewalls, VPN connections to Tekelec sites, partners and
customers, telecommunications circuits, IP phone systems, QoS across the
Tekelec network.
• The IT Network Engineer/Planner must be able to adhere to corporate
policies and procedures and pay attention to security, risk and compliance
with various regulations.
• Ability to keep up with hardware and software industry trends/new
products
• Strong knowledge of core and Networking fundamentals is required,
including a deep understanding of TCP/IP and experience with IPSec.
• Exposure to: Infrastructure Design and analysis; Security Risk management
and policy design; Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems; Network Monitoring;
Authentication technologies; Capacity planning, High Availability; UNIX server
administration; Network Services including DHCP, DNS, and WINS; File
structures and knowledge of Active Directory an asset.
• Candidate will be required to be on-call approximately 1 week out of the
month, and will provide back-up of designated employee.
Summary of Qualifications:
• BS/BA in Computer Science/MIS, related field and 5+ years relevant
experience
• 10+ years experience performing network equipment support, monitoring,
supporting a multi-office environment
• 8+ experience in design, planning, implementation, operation and support
of data networking systems
• 5+ years experience in Project Management or support
• 5+ years experience in design, planning, implementation, operation and
support of network security infrastructures
• Direct experience in LAN/WAN topology and equipment and communication
protocols (such as TCP/IP, etc.) and internetworking products
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task and determine own priorities working
with IT related technical certifications, such as A+ certification required,
OEM certifications (Cisco, CheckPoint, etc.), CISSP, GIAC
• Strong understanding of hardware and software configuration across a broad
spectrum of network infrastructure devices and vendors
• Excellent understanding of running secure networks, hardening servers,
implementing and monitoring packet filtering firewalls and intrusion detection
systems
• A solid understanding of networking/distributed computing environment
concepts; understand principles of routing, client/server programming, the
design of consistent network-wide filesystem, VPN and DMZ
layouts.
