REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Reports to the Senior Vice President of Technology Development & Engineering

This role is responsible and accountable for establishing the overall technology direction, managing and coordinating the launch and deployment of Cox’s wireless network and services. This involves oversight, managing and directing the various technical teams including technology partners, coordinating the development of equipment testing and network deployment plans, service deployment, integration testing and implementing operational process improvements.

Focusing on results, collaborating cross functionally, and managing by influence, this leader will manage the wireless engineering team, define the long-term technical roles and responsibilities for wireless, develop and implement technology architectures as they relate to the different functional groups in Atlanta and the field systems. This role establishes and manages relationships and alliances with industry peers, key industry organizations and suppliers.

This role is a member of the Cox Technology Development and Engineering leadership team and is responsible for alignment of the wireless technology infrastructure with the company’s long-range business plans. In addition, it provides counsel and guidance to the business unit P&L leaders in understanding the interplay between wireless technology and the business.

This position contributes company-wide leadership and influence in assessing new wireless technologies; driving Cox’s wireless network, systems and technology strategy. This not a role for a pure technologist but requires an engineering professional with technical skills, operational experience, as well as business perspective and acumen.

The VP of Wireless Engineering interacts extensively across both the supply and demand sides of the engineering organization. The work of the Wireless Engineering group will have a significant impact on the effectiveness of the following functions:

- Strategy
- Product Management
- Marketing

- Customer Operations
- Technical Operations
- P&L Organizations

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide strategic and functional leadership in developing, executing and supporting Cox’s Wireless Engineering plans consistent with Cox’s overall objectives.
- Build and lead an efficient wireless engineering team that supports the wireless product organization and the market operations in the creation of Cox’s new wireless business unit by delivering technical expertise across three dimensions: strategy and planning, development and implementation, and ongoing technical operations.
- Define and develop the network architecture for the introduction of new wireless products and services introduced in both MVNO and build markets.
- Responsible for the engineering PMO and managing all the engineering tasks associated with the launch and support of the wireless services in MVNO and build markets.
- Support field systems with communications, timelines and deliverables for engineering planning, network deployments and on-going wireless engineering operations.
- Develop, implement and maintain initial and ongoing operating best practices, performance metrics, and processes that drive customer satisfaction, network reliability, and continuous improvement across wireless engineering, network services and operations.
- Manage project portfolio and resource allocation to assure engineering activities are aligned with business strategies.
- Develop and execute plans to achieve and maintain key strategies in organizational alignment, development and deployment efficiency, and service reliability.
- Conduct regular reviews of team members and work to improve and build their overall effectiveness.
- Collaborate with the company’s technology community and product management teams across business units.

QUALIFICATIONS/ATTRIBUTES:
- BE/BS and Masters or equivalent and at least 15 years wireless industry experience including product development, network engineering, technical operations, and project management experience.
- At least 15 years leading teams of wireless product, engineering and operations resources required, with extensive project management experience.
- Ability to structure and manage large projects, specifically wireless deployments and complex product/service introductions.
- Requires demonstrated ability to think strategically and execute tactically to develop both short and long term operations plans.
- Ability to lead, motivate and facilitate cross-functional teams and bridge legal, business, IT, operational and technology perspectives to solve complex problems.
- Proven ability to get things done in a consensus-driven environment essential.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills are required in addition to excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Sound business acumen, financial skills, and the ability to leverage engineering and technology experience in developing business case cost inputs
- Ability to clearly explain complex technical issues, concepts, expectations and progress to the executive team or other organizations in terms that are appropriate for the respective audience.
- Business understanding and working knowledge of the cable /communication industry, systems, and networks, as well as, current and emerging technologies and standards is very beneficial.
- Willingness to travel

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This role is exposed to company-wide confidential business and human resource plans. To be most effective, this position requires 20% to 35% travel, occasionally international. A comfort level with cultural diversity is essential.
