Senior VSAT Engineer - TeleCommunication Systems, Inc.

Position Description

TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) is a leading provider of mission-critical wireless data solutions to government customers, public safety, and carriers.

TCS produces wireless data communications technology solutions that require proven high levels of reliability. TCS’ wireless data offerings include secure deployable communication systems and engineered satellite-based services; location-based wireless and VoIP Enhanced 9-1-1 services; messaging and location service infrastructure for wireless operators; and commercial location applications, like traffic and navigation, using the precise location of a wireless device.

Assist/lead engineers and in VSAT and/or RF related pre-sales, design and post-sales support. Will primarily perform initial network design, system layout, schematics, proof of concept and system commissioning. May also be required to assist on RF portions of network installations. Reports to the Director of Engineering.

Design satellite-based solutions, to include logical design, link budgets, cost estimation, input to work breakdown schedule, satellite and terrestrial bandwidth requirements and hardware configuration (selection, bill of materials), and documentation, in support of customer requirements and other Government Solutions Group (GSG) activities, as required.
- Strong knowledge of RF theory is required. iDirect and Linkway experience is a plus.
- Proven ability to design, deploy and troubleshoot RF based networks. Should be able to configure network with minimal external help.
- Ability to assist on network installations involving VSAT comms.
- Knowledge of government Type 1 encryption devices is a strong plus.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience related to network and systems engineering. MSEE preferred.
- Fixed/deployable satellite system operations and maintenance training or related equivalent work experience.
- Industry training desirable (iDirect, Linkway, ViaSat, etc).
- Cisco Systems Certification desirable.
- Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) desirable.

Experience:
- BS Degree Electrical Engineering required.
- Minimum ten years experience operating and managing communication networks and systems.
- Minimum five years experience designing and installing internetworking systems.
- Ability to work in a fluid fast paced technical environment with minimal supervision.
- Ability to manage change, provide program management and achieve results.
- Ability to perform systems simulations and analysis to support and validate the design of communication systems and networks.
- Possess well developed technical writing/editing and oral communication skills, and be able to interact comfortably and professionally with the client and others, both internally and externally.
- Ability to work well in a team environment and/or independently, with limited direction, to meet schedule and objectives.

Familiarity with JITC, Artstrat, and DSCS certifications is a requirement.
