Network Operations Technician I
Scope of Work: Duties • Perform network monitoring and 1st level troubleshooting for Ericsson and other vendor equipment in MSD Operations in a pre paid Intelligent Network (IN) and multi-media environment. • Provide surveillance support for critical platforms – this will include local and remote locations. • Notify cross functional support teams of any network difficulty contributing to transport degradation. Notification points will be established in SLA and product support procedures. • Perform routine site health checks; participate in quality support initiatives, etc • Direct interface with carriers and customers and internal groups. • Ability to work rotating shifts, off-normal and extended overtime as required. • Perform other network surveillance duties including but not limited to: o Answering phones o Alarm Handling o Trouble Ticket creation/closure o Escalation(s) o Monitor Mail boxes o Test Calls/Checks o Customer Interface o Track progress of ongoing maintenance activities/send notifications Experience • Minimum of 3 – 5 years wireless telecommunications experience with specific background in Pre Paid, MMS, SMS, IP, SS7 Transport, Service Layer, and Content platforms. • Understanding of alarming systems at the hardware, application, network, and OS level. • Basic understanding of handset testing and trouble-shooting • 2 + years in a NOC environment Areas of focus • Good understanding of IP networks and routing • NOC network surveillance • Operations and maintenance functions • Telecom experience preferred • Transport systems a plus • Network routing preferred • Ericsson suite of products and applications strongly preferred • Class 3 and 5 switching a plus • SS7 knowledge a plus • Tellabs, Tekelec, Cisco, SUN, HP, Dell, EMC, Juniper, F5, Netscout, Netcool, Remedy Resolution, Oracle, UNIX a plus Other • This is a rotating shift position, working 365/7×24 • Understand how to use a PC, laptop, or server technologies • Thorough understanding of Outlook • Extensive knowledge of MS suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) • Must be proficient in writing and reading English and grammar • Knowledge of UNIX based platforms a plus Education Four year degree or equivalent experience is preferred
