SUMMARY
Under general supervision of the manager, telephony engineering activities in support of HFC and fiber-fed residential and commercial telephony services in Orange County. Assist in the technical and personal development of junior engineers within the department.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Engineer digital telecom equipment including fiber optic terminals, multiplexers, channel banks, HDTs, DLC, and related peripherals
- Engineer circuit layout report (CLRs) for T1s and above.
- Assist in technical support for local transmission technicians and troubleshooting.
- Interface with the fiber and RF engineering groups
- Prepare detailed work packages for all work sent to the transport group
- Develop network performance measurements and goals
- Manage large projects for the telephony engineering group
- Work with Atlanta engineering in developing standards for equipment evaluations.
- Complete circuit layout report within Granite (CLR) for T1s and above
- Build Sonet rings within Granite
- Meets on a regular and as-needed basis with other groups in Orange County (e.g. transport, CBS, RPM)
- Prepare purchase order requisitions for approval
- Perform field visits to remote hub site, PoP and customer locations as required
- Mentor and check the work of junior engineers
QUALIFICATIONS
Min. of 6 years engineering experience in the CATV or telephony field. Good knowledge of HFC telephony, SONET, DACS, DLCs, and NMS required. Proficient in standard software packages including Visio and MS Access
EDUCATION
BSEE from an accredited 4-year university or college and 6 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. MSEE is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Microsoft Windows applications.
