Position Description

The Senior Infrastructure Designer will provide technical leadership in building and designing the systems of the Oracle Communications Suite to support the Wireless line of business at Cox. The qualified candidate will partner internally with application development teams, system integrators, and existing system owners to design a solution capable of supporting a scalable converged system.

The main focus of this position will be to provide technical direction to system integrators and Oracle in regards to system design and integration between the Core Oracle OSS/BSS and any third party applications. This person must be a quick learner, and able to answer project managers, business owners, third party vendors inquiries concerning system software and applications. This person will work with cross functional teams and must have excellent communication skills.

The core applications that Senior Infrastructure Designer will be working on are the components of Oracle’s Communications Suite including Application Integration Architecture (AIA), Billing and revenue Management (BRM), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Order and Service Management (OSM), Unified Inventory Management (UIM), and Automated Service Activation Program (ASAP).

Responsibilities include:
- Build partnership with Oracle Product team in order to understand and align design efforts to the Oracle roadmap.
- Lead design between the development teams, system integrators and Oracle for design activities related to Cox Wireless OSS/BSS platform.
- Collaborate with architects from other teams to ensure the technical integrity of the end-to-end solution.
- Maintain and enforce the application architecture and alignment with Cox enterprise standards.
- Define and maintain technical design patterns for use by designers and developers.
- Assess new applications/platforms to be integrated with the Oracle Communications Suite.
- Conduct build vs. buy options analysis for new business functionality required for implementation in Cox OSS/BSS application suite.
- Develop plans, schedules and requirements for installation and maintenance of new and revised software.
- Review, guide and maintain solution designs for reports, integrations, workflow, conversions and extensions.
- Develop and maintain design solution following J2EE standards where necessary.
- Maintaining documentation of the design details for the level 0 and level 1 blueprint.
- General troubleshooting of critical operating system, hardware, and application development concerns.
- Assist in the documentation of current and future designs.

Qualifications:
Requires BS/BA in related discipline; Masters degree preferred. Generally 5-8 years of experience in related field OR MS/MA and 3-5 years of experience in related field.

The ideal candidate will have specific implementation experience in one or more of the Oracle Communications Suite applications ’ BRM, CRM, AIA, OSM, UIM, ASAP. Preference given to candidates with experience integrating BRM (Formerly Portal Software’s Infranet application) with Siebel’s CRM application. We will also consider candidates with strong BEA Weblogic experience

Strong preference for candidates with prior consulting experience, especially from a large systems integrator. Interpersonal and communication skills are essential as this role is instrumental in influencing senior/executive level decision makers.

- Telecom Industry experience is a must in this order of preference (wireless, commercial, wire line, HSI, or video) with priority given to candidates with experience at a major national carrier
- Understanding of SOA strategy and architectural approaches is a big plus
- Former Oracle, Siebel, or Portal employees a big plus
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- J2EE development and design experience with large scale enterprise systems
- Hands on experience with Oracle Fusion Middleware (OC4J, BEA Weblogic)
- Thorough experience and understanding of web services and XML technologies (WSDL, UDDI, SOAP, REST, XML, XSD, DTD)
- Thorough experience and understanding of messaging technologies (e.g. JMS, MQSeries, Oracle AQ)
- Thorough understanding of BPEL (Business Process Execution Language)
- Understanding of interfacing protocols/methods (e.g. TCP, FTP, SMTP, JMS, JCA, SOAP, HTTP, HTTPS)
- Experience and understanding of hardware architectures and operating environments (e.g. Unix, Linux, Windows)
- Ability to influence, support and implement technical decisions
- Ability to effectively translate business needs/requirements into technical designs
- Ability to work in various technical teams, requiring significant collaboration and coordination
- Ability to mentor and guide developers and technical leads on architecture principles and development standards
- Occasional international travel involved
