Software Architect – Platform Technology Group

Are you a seasoned software architect who is ready to take on a new challenge? The Platform Technology Group at Openwave is charted to create a new platform for building the next generation of Openwave products and services. We need people with cutting edge web and distributed systems technology expertise. The opportunity is to be part of a start-up activity hosted within a supportive parent organization. We have the resources and backing to make something big happen – but we need some rock star players to make sure the foundation is right.

As an architect on this small, but growing team you will be expected to take on architectural ownership of significant products and components. This is an exciting time to join the team: we are spinning up quickly, but still have superb opportunities for engineers who are ready to own and drive the direction of our new technology.

Position Requirements

• MS Degree in CS or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. PhD degree will be a definite plus.
• 8+ years of strong architecture experience working in large scale web technologies.
• Hands-on coding is a must (it is a good sign if you wouldn’t have it any other way)!
• Formal training hands on experience in object-oriented languages (Java/C++), Expertise with Spring and JEE stack, Unix system-level programming, relational databases, and Internet technologies (HTTP, TCP/IP, REST, Apache etc.) required.
• Knowledge of OSGI, SCA, Hadoop are definite pluses.
• Demonstrated ability to own the architecture of major product components.
• Ability to work with other development groups to ensure end to end architectural, functional and protocol consistency.
• Proven experience in writing complex technical documentation without significant direction.
• Excellent written and verbal skills – having great ideas that nobody understands won’t help!
