Field Technician - Cleveland - Fibertower

Position Description

FiberTower is a growing telecommunications company that designs and deploys a shared infrastructure network for wireless service providers across the U.S.

This is an intermediate technical field position that provides advanced hands on market support. Responsible for the installation and configuration of network equipment as well as isolating complex transport issues. Performs fault management on a wide variety of platforms in the FiberTower network including microwave, fiber optic, and telemetry systems.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Install, accept, and maintain microwave, multiplex, fiber optic and other auxiliary equipment that comprises the FiberTower network. A Field Tech II will be proficient in at least two of these categories and has a working knowledge of the others.
- Coordination with the Network Operations Center personnel in the isolation and clearance of network problems.
- Works as a part of a cross functional team to conduct routine, preventative and corrective maintenance activities to support Network Deployment, Performance, and Reliability initiatives.
- Troubleshoots problems related to the network and provides support to Level I technicians.
- Provides an intermediate level analysis for fault isolation as it pertains to microwave, fiber optics, T-1, telemetry, and voice and data circuits.
- Provide input to supervisor on process improvement related to preventative maintenance routines.
- Maintain spares inventory and ensure all spares, tools, vehicle, and test equipment are in proper working order.
Discretion and Independent Judgment:
- Normally follows established procedures on routine work, requires instruction only on new assignments.
- Works on assignments that are semi-routine in nature but recognizes the need for occasional deviation from accepted practices.
- Should be self motivated and a self starter.
Functional/Technical skills:
- Applies acquired job skills and company policies and procedures to complete assigned tasks
- Ability to follow guidelines regarding safety
- Intermediate knowledge of most tools and test equipment used in the FiberTower network
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks to completion
- Must be flexible in ever changing environments and priorities
- Be open in providing and receiving constructive feedback
- Show initiative in achieving company goals and objectives
- Must possess a valid drivers license
Experience and Education:
- Strong PC skills and MSOffice
- Must be current in the use of Windows 2000 and remote access on personal laptop computers.
- Excellent verbal and written communications
- Proficiency in the installation and maintenance of at least two of the following areas: microwave, multiplex, fiber optic, voice and data networks
- 2 year technical degree or equivalent military and/or work experience
- Typically requires a minimum of 2 to 4 years of industry related experience
Environmental/Physical demands:
- Ability to work extended shifts and on-call as needed
- Must be willing to work on rooftops and climb communication towers to support maintenance activities
