Wireless VAS Sr. System Administrator - Cox Communications

Position Description

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Wireless Value Added Services (VAS) Systems Administrator to provide 24X7 oncall platform administration. Tasks include hardware, software, and application installation, maintenance, daily monitoring, and tuning. The position requires strong analytical skills for metric analysis and trending. The position requires 24×7 Support on a rotating basis. The desired applicant will also have experience implementing business initiatives per documented requirements.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Operating system and application installation.
2. Hardware installation.
3. Patch management.
4. Manage security of servers.
5. Monitor servers and applications for errors and performance problems.
6. 4th tier application support.
7. Tune application, operating system and hardware for optimal performance.
8. Develop scripts for automating routine tasks.
9. Capacity planning and hardware sizing.
10. Planning and implementing disaster recovery and high availability for critical systems.
11. Troubleshooting of application, operating system and hardware problems.
12. Assist in the development and implementation of server standards for all new servers.
13. Assist in the documentation of current and future systems.
14. Ability to communicate effectively with business counterparts.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Typically requires BS/BA in related discipline. Generally 5-8 years of experience in related field. Certification is required in some areas OR MS/MA and generally 3-5 years of experience in related field. Certification required in some areas
2. Strong UNIX and Linux skills, particularly Sun Solaris.
3. 5+ years of hands on J2EE (Weblogic or JBoss) experience
4. 5+ years of hands on experience with BEA Weblogic/JBoss/WebSphere application servers.
5. Experience with maintenance of three of the following : Weblogic App Server, Weblogic Portal, WebSphere App Server, WebSphere Portal, Apache , Tomcat, LDAP, Asset Management tools
6. Experience with distributed server environments.
7. Script development with bash/ksh/csh and/or Perl a must.
8. Minimum of 4 years Solaris system administration experience.
9. Experience in a carrier-class ISP environment is required.
10. Ability to work with minimal direction, yet also able to work in team environment.
11. College Degree required, with preference for Information Systems, Computer Science.
