Oracle to buy networking vendor Acme Packet for $2.1B

Oracle said it will buy networking vendor Acme Packet in a deal valued at $2.1 billion in equity.The acquisition pushes Oracle deeper into the wired and wireless networking market. The software vendor will pay $29.25 a share, a 22 percent premium over Acme Packet's closing price on Friday. Acme Packet is a leading vendor in the market for session border controllers and session delivery networks, which help service providers and enterprises secure packet traffic. Acme has been focused on taking advantage of the move from legacy networks to all-IP architectures, such as LTE networks for wireless carriers.
