Industry Canada's wireless spectrum auction has ended after 331 rounds, netting the government $4.25 billion, which is more than twice the amount analysts had projected. Rogers Communications was the highest bidder, with bids totaling $999.4 million. While two other incumbents, Telus and BCE, bid $879.9 million and $740.9 million respectively. The Canadian government auctioned off 105 megahertz of spectrum; with 40 megahertz set aside for new entrants to stimulate competition. The new entrants were Quebecor, Globalive Communications and Shaw Communications.
