INTEROP TECHNOLOGIES ANNOUNCES BREAKTHROUGH
IN SMSC THROUGHPUT AND SCALABILITY
SMSC 4 Series Provides 36,000 Message Delivery Attempts Per Second, Improving Service for Customers and Reducing Operator Costs
FORT MYERS, FL.-EMBARGOED TILL Sept. 10, 2008-Interop Technologies, a leading provider of advanced wireless technology solutions for the global wireless, packaged goods, and content industries, today announced that its SMSC 4 Series solution delivers the world's highest throughput for SMS Centers (SMSCs). The technology breakthrough helps eliminate delayed messages for customers and improve cost efficiencies for operators.
The SMSC 4 Series [3] provides up to 36,000 message delivery attempts (MDAs) per second, setting a new industry standard and more than doubling the highest SMSC throughput announced to date. The technology achievement is important because SMS volume continues to increase, pushing technology limits for many wireless operators and causing blocked messages during peak periods. Gartner, Inc. [4] forecasts 2.3 trillion messages will be sent across major markets worldwide in 2008, a 19.6 percent increase from the 2007 total of 1.9 trillion messages.
To date, many wireless operators have scaled their capability to meet increased SMS volume and availability requirements by linking multiple SMSCs in daisy chains. However, this practice can result in technical and human resource inefficiencies that increase operating costs and negatively affect reliability. The SMSC 4 Series solves these problems and can be scaled to meet the needs of any size wireless operator.
"This throughput level is an achievement for the industry and Interop Technologies," said Will Hodgman, Executive Vice President of comScore. [5] "The number of Americans sending text messages grew 31 percent over the past year, with 117 million using SMS in June. This technology is very important and timely due to the surging demand for text messaging."
The Interop Technologies SMSC 4 Series combines innovative use [6]of SMS routers, clustering and load balancing technologies, and intelligent route caching to provide extreme scalability and eliminate the need for multiple SMSCs. Since fewer SMSC installations and related technical personnel are required, operators can reduce costs. In addition, operators can improve service for SMS customers. The state-of-the-art, carrier-grade SMSC 4 Series provides the "five-nines" (99.999 percent) reliability that operators require.
Interop Technologies [7] has commercially deployed the SMSC 4 Series for dozens of wireless companies operating in the company's hosted and turnkey environments. Interop Technologies offers the technology, which includes hardware, software, and support services, in flexible deployment options [8].
"The SMSC 4 Series is already helping network operators meet the current demands in messaging growth while providing a better customer experience" said Damian Sazama, Vice President of Marketing and Product Development for Interop Technologies. "This solution also will help simplify SMSC operation and reduce the total cost of ownership."
The complete line of Interop Technologies solutions for messaging, device management, and entertainment and personalization will be displayed Sept. 10-12 in booth number 544 at the CTIA Wireless I.T. & Entertainment 2008 tradeshow in San Francisco.
