Huawei doubled its mobile equipment market share in the first quarter and passed Alcatel-Lucent as the No. 3 vendor in Dell'Oro's quarterly rankings.

[1]Industry leader Ericsson maintained its position and expanded its lead over Nokia Siemens Networks. Ericsson had 33 percent market share, while Nokia Siemens Networks dropped to 21 percent, down from 24 percent a year ago. Huawei doubled its market share to 15 percent, while Alcatel-Lucent saw its market share drop to 14 percent, down from 16 percent a year ago, according to Dell'Oro.

Alcatel-Lucent is forecasting a contraction in the mobile equipment market of 8 to 12 percent this year. Nokia Siemens is predicting a 10 percent decline. Dell'Oro said the market contracted 9 percent in the quarter compared with last year's quarter, but that Chinese 3G contracts prevented an even steeper decline.

"Intense price competition among vendors vying for share of the Chinese 3G tenders resulted in very steep price erosion, particularly in CDMA," Dell'Oro analyst Scott Siegler told Reuters.
