According to Infonetics Research, 78 percent of operators with IMS core equipment who responded to a survey last year said that they will have a mobile-specific service such as mobile messaging, VoLTE, Rich Communication Service, and/or VoIP over 3G deployed by 2013. In the U.S. we are anxiously awaiting VoLTE, the GSMA-based standard for delivering voice calls over LTE networks, to be deployed this year. Operators such as MetroPCS have a big incentive to move to VoLTE quickly because the technology will allow it to refarm its spectrum currently reserved for CDMA services. Verizon also wants to use VoLTE as a way to free up some legacy spectrum.
Join editor Sue Marek and a panel of experts as they examine the challenges to deploying VoLTE and also explore other next-generation mobile voice services.
