The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is freeing up satellite spectrum for terrestrial mobile broadband services in order to meet the ambitious goals of the National Broadband Plan. With the DISH proceeding nearing completion, Globalstar has requested authority to offer terrestrial mobile broadband services within its licensed spectrum, including an innovative Terrestrial Low Power Service (“TLPS”) in its 2.4 GHz band.
TLPS will be a licensed service that is readily compatible with existing 802.11-compliant Wi-Fi devices, offering data speeds and distances that are far superior to those currently existing on the public Wi-Fi channels. TLPS will be part of a managed service offering, coordinated with Globalstar's satellite services, that utilizes bespoke carrier-grade access points to provide substantial “Wi-Fi offload” capacity and a superior end user experience.
Attend this webinar to learn more about the technical aspects of TLPS deployment, expected consumer benefits, business opportunities and the outlook for near-term relief from the FCC.
