Analyzing the world's handset launches from November

Research firm Strategy Analytics tracks and ranks every handset announced by every manufacturer across the globe. The firm evaluates the specifications of each of those handsets to derive engineering trends in the space, from battery capacity to weight and thickness to whether they have a touchscreen.

Every month, the firm issues a report on the new handsets released during that month, and provides average rankings based on the specifications of those handsets. Thanks to a teaming between Strategy Analytics and FierceWireless, we'll bring you some key figures every month from that report. (See the August report and the September report.)

During November, another 101 new handsets and seven new USB dongles were announced globally by 33 vendors. Average camera resolution for the new models was 3.55 megapixels, while 33 percent incorporated a touchscreen, 86 percent incorporated a memory card slot, and 72 percent had a USB slot. Among the new handsets announced in November were 13 high-end devices from Japanese OEMs under NTT DoCoMo's Prime, Pro, Smart and Style series, all incorporating 7.2 Mbps HSDPA capability.
