BCSx350 Dual-Core Chip Combines Uncompromised Performance with Full Features

TAIPEI, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Beceem Communications, the leading provider of 4G semiconductor solutions, announced today that its new BCSx350 4G-WiMAX single-chip solution features a dual-core architecture that changes the way 4G modems and modules will be built and used. A simple yet very exciting example of the benefits of this dual-core architecture is a next-generation USB modem that does not require any SW drivers or connection managers to be installed on the host laptop. The architecture for next-generation CPEs and Mobile Routers is greatly simplified and cost reduced, and modules for embedded devices are now completely self-contained.

“In order to deliver uncompromised 4G performance for embedded products like Smartphones, tablets or mobile routers, we have integrated a high-performance CPU into our BCSx350 chip that can run the complete 4G IP network stack plus WiFi routing and VoIP processing. This enables our customers to build embedded products where running the 4G modem has no impact on the application performance or CPU utilization of the host device, which allows our customers to build advanced multi-media and mobile computing devices as well as high-end consumer electronics without having to worry about the integration of the 4G modem,” said Lars Johnsson, Vice President of Marketing for Beceem Communications. “Competing solutions require the device maker to integrate various levels of 4G modem software to run on the host CPU, which compromises device performance and increases power consumption when the application processing competes for CPU resources with the 4G processing requirements.”

The BCSx350 started sampling to customers in April of 2010, and first designs are expected to go into volume production in Q3 of 2010.
