AP Mobile News Network Available on Apple App Store
The Associated Press today announced that its Mobile News Network native application for iPhone and iPod touch will be available as a free download from the Apple App Store beginning today.
"We're delighted with the Mobile News Network application for iPhone and iPod touch and are really looking forward to making it widely available on the Apple App Store," said Jane Seagrave, AP's senior vice president for global product development.
Based on the award-winning Web application ( www.apnews.com), the native application is a multimedia portal powered by The Associated Press and targeted at iPhone and iPod touch users who want access to a breadth of news from trusted sources. The release of the client application is the next step by AP and its member news organizations toward providing a single mobile access point for all news.
The Mobile News Network iPhone application offers a variety of new features and functionalities. The application integrates with the advanced capabilities of the iPhone to enhance the user experience of reading news on the go. The application automatically detects location, allows readers to browse full stories while out of network reception, and provides navigation customization. The application version of the Mobile News Network also allows viewers to save stories of interest and flip through photos and videos without delay. Additionally, the Mobile News Network has a "Send Report" feature that allows users to report first-hand accounts and send photographs directly to AP editors.
The Mobile News Network is the first product released by Associated Press Digital Cooperative, an initiative aimed at finding new digital outlets for the news and information produced by AP and its members. With more than 200 news publishers in the network, covering 16 of the top 20 DMAs, the network provides the widest coverage available of breaking news, sports, entertainment and business developments for consumers on the go.
The Mobile News Network application is available for free from Apple's App Store on iPhone and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore/.
