Product designers and developers can now use the BUG, Bug Labs’ open hardware development platform, to build, program and deploy new wireless devices pre-approved to run on the Sprint 3G network, while bypassing costly and time-consuming testing and certification steps. The BUG platform is an electronic tool kit that includes discrete hardware modules, Sprint 3G network-ready modems, and associated software that can be easily combined and re-configured to create new, custom wireless devices. Developers can purchase the BUG tool kit for the Sprint 3G network by visiting the new online store at http://www.sprint.com/commandcenter/store/.

Bug Labs Supplies Hardware for Sprint M2M Collaboration Center

Sprint selected Bug Labs to be a laboratory equipment partner in its new Sprint M2M Collaboration Center, which opened this week in Burlingame, Calif. The center gives enterprises with new product and service ideas for M2M and embedded computing technology a laboratory space for collaborating with partners and enterprise customers to develop and test new products. Visitors to the center will be able to use the BUG platform for device prototyping and testing. The Sprint M2M Collaboration Center is a groundbreaking initiative that unites the burgeoning M2M ecosystem and fosters the creation of new connected devices. Industry analyst firm Infonetics recently estimated that there were 87 million embedded mobile M2M connections last year, and that number will reach 428 million by 2014. This market opportunity has been created by the proliferation of new mobile devices, applications, services and providers, combined with the availability of higher-speed wireless networks.
