Community Banks Deploy Mobile Check Capture and Rewards

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Austin, Texas-based, Malauzai Software Inc., which provides SmartApps to community financial institutions, announced successful implementation of two products, mobile check capture and rewards. Community banks continue to look for ways to attract and engage customers in the mobile channel, and competing with large banks and money centers already offering these services is a primary goal.

$1.9 billion Lubbock, Texas-based City Bank Texas recently deployed Malauzai’s checking rewards solution within the app. “Customers use our rewards program to earn top interest on their account as well as refunds on ATM fees,” said Jim Simpson, VP Information Technology at City Bank Texas. “Prior to launching rewards within the app, customers lacked the ability to efficiently check the status of their rewards account, with dialing into our call center as an only option. Today, customers can touch an icon on the smartphone and get real time updates.”

City Bank Texas launched Malauzai’s SmartApp platform in October and sees more than 1,000 customers download the app each week. “In just two years, the mobile channel has rapidly evolved,” said Simpson. “Simply providing checking account balances, transaction history and funds transfer services does not continually engage customers. We look to offer time-saving and engaging solutions through mobile. Our strategy is to continually drive customers back to the app.“

“To survive, community banks have to offer the services consumers expect, such as mobile check capture and checking rewards,” said Robb Gaynor, chief product officer and co-founder at Malauzai Software, Inc. “Customers are willing to switch banks to get mobile solutions that fit their lifestyles and preferences. Consumers are demanding that banks adjust channel strategy and go where they live their lives today, with the smartphone.”

$494 million New Castle, Ind.-based Ameriana Bank recently launched mobile check capture, which enables customers to deposit checks remotely via smartphone cameras. “We see check deposits by phone every day,” said Jerome Gassen, President of Ameriana Bank. “Customers requested this service, and in partnership with Malauzai Software, we delivered.”

Malauzai’s SmartApps are available for smartphones and tablets (iPad/Android). The company defines a SmartApp as a mobile app that delivers superior customer experience. The term “smart” is used because the app can be updated in real-time from a centralized location. SmartApps can also be tailored for separate customer segments. The company created SmartApps in response to the demand for a dynamic, customer-focused smartphone application. Malauzai’s platform is based on three tenets designed to enhance the customer experience, while driving profitability within the mobile channel. The components are Cool Social Banking SmartApps, an Application Management System to manage SmartApp growth across platforms, and Mobile Marketing to drive bank revenue.
